The new Sitar carpenty adds a contemporary workshop to the historic farmstead in Spodnje Mladetiče. The existing workshop with office and service areas remains in the neighboring building, while the new volume adds production area and strengthens the company’s future.
The volume is clearly proportioned and deliberately integrated into the existing order: all buildings – including the house, the current workshop, and a traditional “kozolec” (hayrack) – are oriented around a courtyard with a tree and well. The new building follows this logic and joins the shared courtyard.
A vertically articulated timber façade gives the building a timeless presence and continues the existing materiality. The design responds to regional traditions, adopting farmstead elements, including the hayrack, whose simple, functional language is carried forward.
Particular care was given to embedding the project in the ensemble. The siting preserves the farmyard’s clear order, while the choice of materials conveys continuity and permanence. The new workshop does not read as a foreign element but as a natural evolution of local tradition. The project shows how contemporary architecture and rural context can enter into dialogue -functional, sustainable, and respectful of place – while improving working conditions with daylight, short routes, and robust finishes for intensive daily use.
