The full renovation of a 100 m² historic apartment in Ljubljana aimed to create a modern home for a family – functional, bright, and welcoming in equal measure. The existing layout was entirely reworked to form generous rooms with a clear order. At the heart of the apartment is an open living area that, through the pairing of wood, light surfaces, and targeted colour contrasts, creates an atmosphere that feels warm yet contemporary.
The design relies on light, neutral tones and shades of grey, combined with natural materials such as oak. This restraint provides a calm backdrop that lets furniture and everyday life take the lead. At the same time, crisp colour accents and selected design elements introduce depth and character.
Special attention was given to making the best use of the available space. Functional built-in furniture, considered storage solutions, and a precise approach to materiality make the apartment feel more generous than its footprint would suggest. Natural daylight plays a central role: open spatial sequences and glazed surfaces draw light deep into the inner space and improve daily comfort and orientation.
The result is a balanced synthesis of functionality and aesthetics that meets the clients’ wish for a flexible, future-ready living environment, while reinforcing a homely, family-centred atmosphere.
