Strict in form, open to life – this guiding idea shaped the design of House Z. The new building, with around 250 m² of usable floor area, is embedded in the topography and uses the terrain and vegetation as a natural buffer against noise and unwanted views. The siting of the volume establishes a clear boundary between public access and the private garden, creating privacy and a sense of shelter.
The architecture follows a restrained language with a unified roof volume. Precise cuts and openings integrate terraces, courtyards, and linear skylights into the volume. In this way bright interiors arise with varied visual connections to the adjacent forest and landscape. Inside, an open living-dining area with a fireplace forms the center. The parents’ suite combines bedroom, bathroom, and a private wellness zone. A dedicated children’s area with two rooms, a bathroom, and a playroom can, when needed, be flexibly converted into a self-contained apartment.
Materiality and detailing tie tradition to contemporary clarity. Wood, terrazzo, and glass are combined with restraint to convey durability, warmth, and tactility. The project demonstrates how modern architecture, in dialogue with nature and place, can balance rigor and openness—functional, atmospheric, and sustainably conceived at once. Throughout, proportions are calm and measured.
