Impressions

The renovation of a historic apartment in Ljubljana’s city centre was conceived as a temporary retreat for a middle-aged couple—with the prospect of turning it into a permanent residence in the future. A finely framed metal-and-glass partition visually links the entrance area with the living room and, at the same time, channels additional natural daylight into the apartment’s inner zones. The entrance area and the bathroom are finished with light terrazzo ceramic tiles, so that the rather small rooms appear as bright, open, and welcoming as possible. Discreet black accents create clear, refined contrasts and lend the interior a clean, elegant line. The furnishings are set within a balanced palette of wood and colour: oak is paired with light grey and complemented by fine black details that add depth to the space. A central design element is a mobile work surface that can be moved and positioned as needed – serving as an extended countertop in the compact kitchen, as a bar, as a serving table, or as a small workspace. This flexible piece strengthens the multifunctional character of the apartment and supports different everyday routines. Overall, the concept brings together light materials, clear structures, and a finely tuned colour scheme to create an atmosphere that feels warm, timeless, and homely while remaining forward-looking.
