The kindergarten follows the existing urban structure and responds sensitively to neighboring buildings, street spaces, and topography. A two-story central volume with rooms for children and toddlers offers generous views in all directions, flanked by single-story volume with green flat roof and accessible roof terrace. Access is provided via Stubnergasse, featuring a new forecourt, park, bicycle and pedestrian paths, and clearly separated zones from car traffic. Inside, a bright and open foyer forms the central hub from which all functions are easily accessed. Toddler rooms face southeast with covered terraces, while children’s groups on the ground and upper floors are oriented to the southeast and southwest, ensuring optimal daylight from morning to evening. Indoor play and exercise spaces, an atrium with a climbing net, and spacious roof terraces create diverse areas for play and interaction. The timber-hybrid structure, natural materials such as wood and clay, compact building form, PV system, and heat pump ensure cost efficiency, sustainability, and high energy performance. Extensive and intensive roof greening, controlled ventilation, and water-retentive roofs support the sustainable concept. Generous outdoor areas with terraces, an atrium, existing trees, new plantings, edible hedges, and a slide connect interior and exterior into a diverse, child-friendly play landscape.
